Club Ho'ing - Page 28 Empty First job?

Post  BBQpig Sun Jul 07, 2013 10:59 am

I was reflecting on my first job, and I couldn't count working for my parents, as that's more an indentured servant thing.
I worked at KFC knowing you had to be 16 I was barely 15. The gig was up 6-7 months later they fired me, as they found out I was 15. Coworkers snitched. I was a chicken fry boy, slash general cleaning, you know mopping the slimy floors, coolers, cleaning the original pressure cooker out, and using that for gravy, Mmm. Having my way with a chick on the stainless table for breading the chicken. Typical teen things.
Legs hear about those first jobs.
I guess since I'm a newb, I can't post a topic, and hijacked this thread.

    Read the advertisement:

    Now I've heard it all.

FD, normally I would laugh at such an ad. However, after I looked more carefully at the seller's pix, it appears that the irons may be Tit 755's and the fairway woods may be Tit 906F4's and the woods all with GD YS-6+ shafts. So the price might not be all that bad considering that the bag might get you at least a hand job from the girlfriend of a guy who is a big fanboy of Vokey's.

I had plenty of under the table cash jobs, but my first W2 job was at an amusement park called Kings Island. The Brady Bunch went there once and one of them lost a wallet. Greg maybe.
I worked games like Guess Age/Weight, milk jug toss, etc. They gave me a microphone to pull in customers which was a lot of fun for a 16 year old. Most of the time, I was trying to get laid with either park guests or co-workers. Stress on the trying part.

My first job was the worst I've ever had. I got a job at Toys R Us and it was my job to walk up and down the aisles and make sure that all of the games, toys, etc. were fronted and faced properly. It was horrible. I've never had a job since where one hour seemed like four. I quit that job after 2 days. I didn't even tell them I was quitting - I just never went back.

My movie theatre job wasn't much better. I remember certain customers would get angry if I didn't fill their Coke all the way to the very top of the brim so that it was spilling over. And then you had the idiots who basically wanted me to fill their entire popcorn bucket with butter. Then as the popcorn settled they'd ask you for more popcorn.

I remember the day when Top Gun came out and it was playing in two of the theatre rooms. They had some new type of thing where they just played one reel and it went to both theatres. It broke down during the opening scene and wouldn't work. Customers came out extremely pissed off and the manager would only agree to give them a credit for another mantenee. Fist fights almost broke out. I told the manager "I ain't gonna be your wing man on this one".

My other main job was on the maintenance crew of a golf course. That was some tough work for a 17-20 year old. This was prior to Mexicans doing all the manual labor. I would get all the horrible jobs involved with a golf course, and I would do them 6 days a week starting at 6am. I thought I was such a badass because I was making $5 an hour when minimum wage was $3.85. My wife told me she used to make $7/hour under the table for babysitting around the same time.

My first job at 15, was a caddy at a verrrry tony private club. I worked for the entire summer season, being off from school and all.
The head caddy was a real ball breaker. We had to learn the course and all its' nuances of the fairways and greens. He would walk us new kids up and down the two eighteen hole courses and make us memorize everything. We were certainly well learned caddies. Didn't get to play at all.
When we weren't caddying, we had to bring our summer school reading list and spend the morning or afternoon reading our assigned books and he would actually read our reports we had to write. Made sure we did our school work. No slacking off here.
I used to make about $60 - $75 a week - all tips! Onetime, I made $100!! That was living large back then.

I tried to get in trouble with some of the members daughters......but they mostly hung around the pool. Verboten territory for the caddies!

Some years ago they made a movie about something like that country club scene you describe. Forgot what it was called but one of the guys from Saturday Night Live was in it. I remember some of them smoked pot and this rich kid drank a glass full of liquor that someone had emptied an ashtray into and then went out to the parking lot in front of the clubhouse and puked into the open sunroof of a guy's pristine 911. Funny shit.

The course I worked at, a members only exclusive club, hired summer help.
They got the bright idea of hiring jocks from the local university.

The basketball players were half day wonders, I found the mowers abandoned on the course. It was pretty funny seeing near 7 foot tall dudes pushing a mower.
The football players, were more accepted, and usually social butterflies.
They liked jumping on a piece of equipment and disappearing on the course for a nap. Work an hour, relax an hour.
The ex cons, and women actually were the better workers.

I had a chance to work at Southwind in Memphis, under the super, John Daly was a regular at the time. To damn hot, and humid there.

The best golf course workers are those who have experience working on crop farms. The worst golf course designers are farmers.

Wow, that was tempting. I just walked out of a Play it again sports where they had a set of brand new Callaway 2013 X-Forged irons with the new Project X PXI 6.0 shafts. Not a mark on them and they clearly were never hit. They had them priced at $449 and with the $50 off coupon it would be $400 plus tax. That's incredible.

But, instead, I walked out with a set of Nike VR Forged Blades, "TW" model with X100 shafts in great shape, 3-PW for $179. Plus a Ping Pal 2 BeCu putter for $19.99.

Probably my best summer job was that of a male escort. The hours were killer but it paid my way through school.

Besides the money difference, the Callaways just won the latest major and the local event the week before. The Nikes, on the other hand, couldn't salvage the pitiful performances of the Big Dog and the Flat Stick occupying the same bag.

    Club Ho'ing - Page 28 Empty Ping G5 Driver

Post  FamousDavis Mon Jul 29, 2013 1:35 pm

    Whoa!

Stumbled upon a like new Ping G5 driver, 9 Degree, with Aldila NVS 65-S shaft. Tried it in the simulator and it was flying 10 to 15 yards further than anything. Naturally, I purchased it for $39.

I put it into play yesterday and it's the most accurate driver I've ever tried. The length is just as long, if not longer, than anything else I've tried with maybe the exception of the Ping i20 driver when I hit one on the nuts. However, the G5 is infinitely easier to hit. Also, it's the best feeling driver I've tried. I love the way it looks at address. Can't really say anything else other than the fact that I'm totally surprised and excited about finding a driver that suits me so well.

I think I am an anti-ho. I've bought 2 clubs in the past year, and they have both been replaced by their originals.
The $$$ SC putter I bought with pro shop cash only lasted 4 miserable months. The beat up bat signal Odyssey has been straight cash since I put it back in the bag 3 months ago.
My Callaway hybrid broke in the winter, so I got a Ping Anser hybrid to replace it with. Callaway did end up sending me a new model, but I had already gone nuts customizing the Anser. I hit the Anser well enough, but took my spare set to KY last week and was hitting the Callaway. The damn thing was a revelation. Crushed and straight every time. The way I used to hit hybrids, unlike the Anser which only worked OK.
The rest of my clubs are 3 years old at least, and I deeply love them all (except the wedges, which are getting a bit long in the tooth).

I haven't purchased anything in a couple months. Am I cured?
I sold some things on eBay, and have excess cash in PayPal, but haven't had the urge to purchase anything.
I am pretty happy with what I have I suppose.
I did get a newer 31 foot rv

I've never quite understood the whole RV thing. To me, it seems like an RV would take up a lot of space, annoy your neighbors, be expensive as hell to tow around and is just something that would take up a lot of time and space. Especially now that gas prices are so high.

Yet, tons of people own RV's. Why not just stay in a hotel when you're traveling. If you're camping, make it real by pitching a tent, cooking over an open fire and leave the TV back home.

Plus, the one thing I always associate with an RV is that bathroom smell. It's unique only to RVs and campers.

Then there are the RV owners who think it's OK to park their monstrosity right there on the street. They usually park it so that it extends right in front of their neighbor's home. I remember passing on buying a home because the neighbor owned an RV that was parked on the street.

I will never forget the news report several years ago of some nutbag that stole a tank from a local armory and drove it thru the neighborhood, CRUSHING an RV with it! Thing collapsed like a cereal box!!
Then he took it out on the freeway - probably the 405 - and tried to hop the divider to go the wrong way into oncoming traffic, got hung up on it and the CHP popped the hatch and capped his ass!
