Re: Club Ho'ing
Rifes are really cool in an industrial, Swiss Army Knife kind of way. Take those screw in weight cylinders, for example. When I got mine used at Golfsmith, I unscrewed both of them to weigh them as soon as I got home and found out that they were 22 grams each, the heaviest of the three sets of weights. Of course if I had bought the damn thing new for two hundred or more clams, I would have gotten all three weight sets and the "lie angle adjustment tool" touted in the maker's propaganda. I didn't need to bend it at all and the heavy weights are perfect. Now if you take out one of those weight cylinders and look at it, it wouldn't be real hard to turn it into a container for all sorts of small stuff. Cocaine. Bullets. Polonium 210. Or whatever. If I ever wanted to smuggle small stuff via commercial airlines, I think that many grams of nasty stuff could be inserted in golf shaft and epoxied up. Those Thousands-Standing-Around (TSA) critters never check your clubs.

I would remove the above comment not giving the guys a reason to start searching your spine aligned golf clubs, or cut up your perfectly groomed grips....

I tried out the 7 iron from a set of Taylormade 300 series forged irons at golf galaxy. Rifle 6.0 shafts. Man these clubs feel nice with great distance! They were in good shape with no rusting on the faces, a few scratches here and there and one ding on the 8 iron. Priced at $81.99. I was tempted but walked away. The long irons looked pretty small and very blade-like.

At that price you should have got them. They are one of Oldplayers favourites.

I think JT likes those as well. They sure felt good. I looked on Ebay and the price at GG wasn't much lower. The MP-32 is the best forged iron I've tried. They got it right with that club.Kiwigolfer wrote:FamousDavis wrote:I tried out the 7 iron from a set of Taylormade 300 series forged irons at golf galaxy. Rifle 6.0 shafts. A double post occurred, and some kind of software, or bug attacks my iPhone. Only on caddy shack. I think it comes up as attacking and takes me to the App Store for some purchase. Friggin annoying.
I can be reading a post and this crap takes over.
It has slowed my posting down, as about 1 out of 2 or 3 post will get nailed.

Re: Club Ho'ing
The 300 forged is among the top 3 clubs I've tried, and of course own, and have no intention of selling.
The feel is not the softest I've hit, but its very rewarding, and crisp. Distance is among the best.
You have to go all in, in the confidence, as there very blade like.
The early Japanese forging, probably Miura I have, has a slight tendency to dig, which was rectified in later sole designs.

Re: Club Ho'ing
Well I am putting the 300 forged back in the bag, as much as I like the Cobra s3 pro irons, I don't care for the KBS tour shafts. Too high a ballflight.
The 8.5 R9 is a beautiful thing, everyone comments on my drives, and how low I keep them now. I find it a little harder to draw, but my stock shot fade is longer than ever. So I've learned to play my strengths.
The Taylormade tp3 ball with a urethane cover seems a marriage made in heaven. I've stocked up on it for the season.
Let the good times roll.
I think theses are around 87 maybe 90 compression.

YES Abbie forged
I've always wanted to try a yes forged putter.
Can't wait for the strokes to drop.
Beautiful putters, supposed to be the best forged yes came up with yet, they claim the Callie forged was to soft. They supposedly got this one perfect. We will see.

This past winter, the guys at the local Golf Galaxy told me that the TP3 ball that had yet to be introduced was going to be Taylor's best ball ever. Better than the five piece one and at a much lower price.12pierogi wrote:Well I am putting the 300 forged back in the bag, as much as I like the Cobra s3 pro irons, I don't care for the KBS tour shafts. Re: Club Ho'ing
Mongrel there's not much to not like about them.
They go like hell. Feel great off irons. Off the putter feel is superb. They have plenty of spin around the greens.
I picked up 4 dozen, and didn't pay over 21.00 dollars for new in the box. I can't pick up any urethane cover ball for that kind of change.
If you have a 120 mph swing speed they could be to soft. I'll put them up against the prov1. And buy 2 dozen Tp3 for the price of one dozen prov1, and have change left over.

Salesman would suck us into buying everything..."A sucker was born every second..." I let my swing do the testing for me... For my SS, I fit better with <70 compression, perhaps in the 40-70 compression. Well, they all may be tested by different methods , not sure if there is a ASTM standards

Feast your eyes on this boys. This is one sexy putter.
I Love the non glare top. I believe it's forged from 1025 carbon steel, instead of maganese bronze like the Callie forged.
I broke down and bought a YES with a sightline.

I don't know about sexy but in the top photograph there are what appears to be pubic hairs near the sightline. Fair-skinned and haired, not Negroid or Hispanic.

Re: Club Ho'ing
I used some of FDs philosophy on eBay.
I only paid 33.00 dollars for it. I'm sure the lack of decent pictures ran some potential bidders off.
The description sounded nice, lamkin midsize cord cross line grip, micro step shaft, no label, extremely minor signs of use, 32-7/8" headcover included.
He didn't mention the slight rust or any pubic hairs.
Got it loaded up with the mp-62 irons, gonna get a quick 9'in. See how it feels.

If its forged from 1025 steel, it should bond with those Mizuno's quite nicely.

Re: Club Ho'ing
I put the Ping i20 8.5 Driver in play today. Ping 707 D Stiff Graphite. This thing is a cannon. It's fairly easy to swing and when hit on the screws it goes a long way. It's definitely longer than most drivers I've tried before on the same course. I'm not quite used to it yet and I can't say it's going to stay in the bag because it's seems a bit hard to control, at times.
In terms of looks it screams modern technology but without all the adjustable screws. Very stealth looking.

Re: Club Ho'ing
I'm so happy I put the Mizunos in the bag, they just make the most wonderful irons in terms of feel, playability, that perfect rainbow ballflight. I also love the craters they leave on the greens, that I repaired.
Life's to short to not play Mizuno.
The Yes Abbie is unique in its forged 1025 feel. The sweet spot is rather large, compared to many putters, that was a surprise.
The feedback from the feel, makes it a joy in distance control.
Somehow it feels lighter, than its actual weight, may have to add lead weight. It's soft, but not to soft like some insert putters.

Re: Club Ho'ing
I may have to finally leave the mp-62 in the bag the whole season, there just that nice. Just a beautiful set of clubs all around.
I might take some weight out of the R9 8.5 That's the beauty of the screws, I can play with the swingweight. I currently have some of the heaviest weights in it. My tempo is finally getting there, after a rather cool spring.
I absolutely rip these R9 drivers. As was attested by a quick 9 yesterday.
My kid was in the pool, my wife in the tanning bed, I played a quick 9 on a busy day. More junior tournaments, so I was on the more difficult black course.
I'm waiting on the first tee, a foursome waives me through, younger guys in there 30s two in the fairway two looking around. I rip one a Walmart away from them down the middle. They all mumble nice drive.
Par.
Second hole more or less an island green. Tiny bit short. Chip putt par.
Third a weird to my eye hole water, water everywhere. I slice one into oblivion, into the next fairway in front of one of the pros giving a lesson. I apologize for my wayward drive, and rip a hybrid over the trees, gw 2 putts bogey.
The pros giving a lesson on the most fearsome hole on the course, I give them a lesson on a 605 yard par 5 a absolutely perfect drive, draw down the middle is needed with a driver, most chicken out with a long iron, or maybe a hybrid, for bogey or worse, as its narrow, scary, water on left right and long. Driver is dangerous but needed for a par. I was left in perfect position for a 3 wood hard fade. 7 iron over more water 2 putt par.
Another foursome is teed off, I wait till they clear a hill, one of the cart girls drops by, I grab a water.
I figure there clear, monster drive almost hit the old guys I couldn't see, as you need a big drive over a hill to leave yourself a chance at birdie, I had to fade a big high drive leaving me in the right rough, and trees to get around. I'm short on a 200 yard approach.
One of the old guys in a panic as he lost his wedge. I told him I didn't see it. I hit my gw on the green, the old guys back, runs up to me says that's about we're my ball was, as I'm putting I miss the bird, tap in par. I hold the flag for the old guy telling about his rare par opportunity after giving him the read. He bogeys it.
They want me to play through of course. I hit a low monster draw drive, they all comment on what a drive. I said something like I was lucky to get it off the ground. There like yeah right. It was low, and your hitting slightly uphill, but I took the chance. Another par.
Next you have to thread the needle on a drive to leave a mid iron approach. I half duff the drive, but it runs down the middle leaving a long uphill 200 yard approach. I pound a faded 3 wood to the right of the green, as deep bunkers are all around this green. I had a difficult chip downhill, I got it close for a one putt par.
Long par 3 over water I pull a 5 iron on a 200 yard shot in cool weather that left me a few yards short right in a trap. I hit a near perfect 58 for a tap in par.
The last hole is a long par 4 another great drive, I pull my second shot, short in the rough leaving a nothing wedge shot, 2 putt bogey.
2 over on the toughest 9 around. On a 60 degree day. I think the cart GPS said I was 70 minutes ahead, whatever that means.

Re: Club Ho'ing
I just ho'd a set of Tommy Armour 845s Silver Scott's from a friends' garage. A Couple of Old red topped Taylor Made Burner Driver, 3W and 5W with "Bubble Shafts". They look 80's vintage. The irons start with a 1i and go to SW. Also 3 wedges by Warrior.
Cost: a bottle of Sterling Pinot Noir(california)
Cleaned up and regripped, they look like a good set for my son
