Damn, I am such a club ho. I just bought a set of Ping Eye 2 square groove irons, 3-PW & SW, ZZ Lite with original grips (that need replacing) for $100. But, I couldn't resist. They are in great shape with the radius U-groove and inverted, raised lettering in the cavity-very rare find and a must have for the Ping Eye 2 connoisseur. With a new set of grips on these babies I will break Tiger's record at Torrey South.
I no longer use Ping grips. I've switched to a less expensive, yet superior, grip made by Lamkin that can only be found at Golf Galaxy.
It's like, cool man!

Anybody ever hit a set of Tommy Armour Silverback 845M's? Cheap and thinking might be a good way to give a set of blades a try.

Maxfli A10 Tour Limited 8-pw are blades. I would show you a picture of the top line, but there would be wet spots if you saw it. Good ol Op suggested these.

I thought you played a forged cavity back kind of blade?
I think if I was on a tight, I would try the Nike pro combo, I see them pretty cheap. Op I remember thought highly of them.
If you have the means, I wouldn't hesitate to reccomend the Maxfli A10 tour Ltd, when they come up, they go reasonably.
Super soft, quite easy to hit, blades in the 8-pw 7 is kind of a muscleback, 2-6 cavity back.

Love my 701s but have a set of 4 eidolon wedges and want to get a set of true blades to try with old school lofts to match those wedges.

I've always wanted to try a Wilson Staff progressive set. There I've said it, I'll probably drive the market up, but they go cheap, and every now, and again nice. You can tweak the lofts, wedges are wedges, what the eidolons have no offset. What loft they start at?

48, 52, 56 and 60. Looking for a set with a 44 9 iron. Course I could get a set of newer irons with a 44 PW but looking at older clubs which should be cheaper to ho.

Mizuno MP 14. PW is 50* and the 9 iron is 45*, 8 iron 40*. Muscle back forged irons pre-GFF. You can get a decent set cheap. The heads are pretty small. The soles are thin. There is some offset.jt1135 wrote:12pierogi wrote:jt1135 wrote:12pierogi wrote:jt1135 wrote:Anybody ever hit a set of Tommy Armour Silverback 845M's? Those Tommy's are a cavity in the short iron, blade in the longer irons. What's up with that, it's backwards.jt1135 wrote:12pierogi wrote:jt1135 wrote:12pierogi wrote:jt1135 wrote:Anybody ever hit a set of Tommy Armour Silverback 845M's? The Mizuno Mp-62 or 32 or 33 or 29 or 14 set would be a nice compliment to your wedges, just sell the pw.

Spotted some 32's with M80 shafts which I know nothing about. A combo 30 and 33 set and maxfli a10 tour limited. Still have a month or two to shake this out so it comes down to cost.

Re: Club Ho'ing
A little course I walk for free. A William Langford design, about a 100 years old, a little burnt as it has very little irrigation, and not a lot of rain last summer. A masterpiece, another Langford course within walking distance of this, originally 50 members, can you say exclusive, and a P.D Dye course within 5 minutes, links on the front, old tree lined American on the back on that one.
Oh by the way this par 4 the green is 450 yards at least over the trees on right. All the holes are demanding.

That looks like a beauty. The tee shot on that hole certainly fits my eye. I enjoy playing burned out courses a whole lot more than those that are irrigated to the point of soggy lies on every fairway shot in the height of the summer. Save the water and the fuel and wear and tear of mowing every day.

They played with stuff like this when it was originally built.
Some big time hitters played this course in the 20s-40s it was rumored 3 of the best holes in golf in America are here. The greens are huge, and used to be much larger, with massive waterfall drops around some. Time has taken it over for less labor, as its a 2 man crew. A third man could go a long ways. I heard any golf course designer architect in the world would Love to have a chance to restore the 9 holes, huge bunkers that are taken over, and finish the some of the other 18 holes he had in the design, as they own huge acreage. There's another of his 9 hole masterpieces down the road. If you could connect the 2 and market it, cause its about a minute on a golf car. I walk it. This iPhone takes decent pictures, I will bore everyone with a few of the holes this spring,

Those look real nice. You had a bunch more shots of them over at the other place recently. I just came back from cruising the local Golfsmith and Galaxy. Hit some drivers at Golfsmith. They had a vacant stall with one of the new Taylors and I hit it. I assume it is the one with the stripes on the crown but they had it all taped up. The closest salesman had that facepaint like the Taylor pros on the television ad. My best clubhead speed was 87. Later I stopped at Golf Galaxy on the way home and they had a pristine set of Mizuno MX 25's for $179. Now I hit the 7 and 5 in the launch monitor station with the screen and was getting about 86 mph clubhead speed with the 5 iron so I think that the Golfsmith monitor might have been a bit shy.

I'm not sure how long there going to look that good, as I'm going to beat the piss out of them when the weather breaks. My mp-62 may have to wait another season. That 8 iron felt real nice the other day.
Not being near a major metropolis is probably the only reason I am still married. I would be worse then you or FD about spending spare time frequenting the used bins, or beating new stuff in a simulator, or launch monitor. I spend enough time on eBay.
I sold a set of mx-25 not all that long ago, about 2 years ago, for a hefty profit, a demo set from a local course I picked up cheap. Sold them to a tall fellow in Australia as there were a inch long, I think he was going to lengthen them another inch, he seemed pretty happy that they were already long.
Fat Phil is racking up the birdies in Scottsdale 180,000 people
Hey Mongrel you mentioned a way to measure swing weights with a ruler, and I guess a scale. What was the math on that again? Having 3 different shafts in a set makes me want to check them.

Hey Mongrel you mentioned a way to measure swing weights with a ruler, and I guess a scale. What was the math on that again? Having 3 different shafts in a set makes me want to check them.
This comes from Dave Tutelman's website and you can google it. He has a bunch of fascinating technical club stuff if you are into the physics of clubs.
Weigh the club in grams. Measure its balance point to the end of the grip in inches. Subtract 14 from that measurement and multiple it by the gram weight. Example: your driver weights 300 grams and its balance point is 34 inches. Thirty four minus 14 is 20 inches times 300 grams equals 6,000. This club's swingweight is C9. The range is 5550 to 6550, or, from C0 to E0 with 50 points between whole swingweights. So 6000 is C9, 6100 is D1, 6200 D2, ad infinitum. This is the formula that is used by the typical 14" balance point swingweight machine except that here you are measuring in inch/grams and the width of the grip will not affect the measurement like it can "trick" the swingweight machine.

Re: Club Ho'ing
God damn, you people buy and own a lot of golf clubs!
I picked up a 9º RocketBallz Tour on eBay last night. I had been searching and bidding on several auctions for a couple of weeks. I hate that most auctions don't include the head cover though. Cheap bastards want to sell it separate and make another $20.
I also got one of those Cam Caddie things that hold your Smart Phone with an Alignment stick so you can easily record your swing with your (in my case) iPhone. Be prepared for swing videos this summer!
Does anyone know if the wrench for an R11 3 wood will work with a RBZ?

That's the problem with certain models of forged irons-that initial shine and finish becomes unattractive within a matter of months. What's interesting, is how some forged irons resist chrome wear, dents and scratches better than others. In my experience with forged irons, Mizuno is the worst when it comes to chrome loss and Callaway is the worst for dents and dings. Callaway's Diablo Forged irons look horrible after one year of use.
Surprisingly, the one forged club that seems to endure the longest is the Wilson FG-17. I had a set of those in high school and college that I must have played 300 rounds with and there was never any chrome loss on the face. I've seen used sets at stores that still look great.
