    Hey Rooboy/Rooteen

I'm coming to Launceston in October. Time to rekindle the old GR Southern Hemisphere Matchplay series. Whaddaya say?

I'm keen to make a trip to Barnbougle Dunes if you'd be up for that. Otherwise your local track could be an option.

Let me know if you are up for the challenge?

Sounds great Kiwi, sure we can work something out. Let me know dates and i will see what days i'm free from work. I am on annual leave for 1st week of October. Not sure how far in advance barnbougle or lost farm has to be booked, but a work mate played there last weekend so i will find out.

Good stuff mate. It will be in late October. I'll let you know the specific dates ASAP. You played Barnbougle/ Lost Farm before?

Played both courses. Couple of charity days and an xmas function at Barbougle, and one time at Lost farm. Both courses are brilliant, but i think i prefer Lost farm as it just seems a little bit easier for the mug golfer. Mind you the day i played there i struck it lucky with no wind at all. The greens are a little bit flatter there also, and the sports bar etc is a bit better. Thats just my opinion though, most everyone you talk to is undecided. The good thing about Lonnie is there are some really nice courses all within an hours drive from the city. Obviously there is my home track, country club and the casino just up the road, devonport and ulverstone an hour away which have all hosted Tassie Opens.
I havent played much lately as i have been on a fitness bender (lost 15kg in 16 weeks) and it has rained probably 6 out of the last 8 weekends. If the weather gets better the courses should be in good nick!

ive always thought it would be cool on these types of things but it never really seems to work out... i think it would be pretty cool to do an east coast or something like that, we should try again i think though..

I've got a decent camera that can take a few short clips. WITB a few swings and some scenery should suffice. Wink

Dave can organise the soundtrack but with the child sex abuse trial hanging over his head Rolf Harris is definitely out of the question this time around.

Who you supporting in the Grand Final? My friends in Launceston are Hawthorne supporters so they are pretty excited today. I'm not really an AFL fan but support Geelong if anybody.

Really divided on this game. As a Roo supporter i hate Hawthorn, but there is a few players for Freo that i would like to see get smashed. Freo play a style of game that can bore anyone to death (ultra defensive). Probably go with Hawks as Tassie is a major sponsor.

    Hey Rooteen/Rooboy

Does Thursday 24th work for you? SWMBO and I are doing a bit of a Tassie tiki tour returning to Launceston on Wednesday 23rd. Fly back to Melbourne on 25th.

Let me know if that could work for you.

I'm back at work Monday, so i will check it out and see what i can do. One issue i have is that i have been called up for jury duty for 3 weeks starting on the 15th. I have filled out a stat dec due to work commitments and am just waiting to see if i am excused. If not i am sure i can feel a bad cough coming on Wink

Sounds good mate. Just let me know. Friday is also a possibility if you can't make Thursday. I don't fly out until 6.10pm so we could always play a local Launceston track early in the day if that's easier. Otherwise Barnbougle/Lost Farm on Thursday would be awesome. Very Happy

Hey Kiwi, looks like Thursday 24th should be ok. I've been excused from jury duty and should be able to swing the day off - just waiting for confirmation from HR but it works for the rest of my management team. I will call Barnbougle/Lost farm as soon as i know. Few people i talked to said even to play there on a Saturday they called a couple of weeks beforehand and got on so a Thursday should be ok. If not i work 2minutes from my home track so i could knock off early and we could have a hit there later in the day. Daylight savings has started last weekend so there will be plenty of daylight if weather is ok. Its bloody rained 12 days out of the last 14 so we are due a change.
On a side note i jarred my achilles last night at a circuit class so i'm hobbling like a lame horse..... just thought i would get the excuses in early Wink

Ha ha no worries we can get a cart! Smile

I am flying to Melbourne this Saturday morning and fly into Launceston on Sunday. SWMBO has a pretty full travel itinerary booked until we return to Launceston on Wednesday 23rd. I'll have my phone and tablet with me so can check in here but I'll also PM you my mobile number so we can get in touch directly.

If you can swing the day off on Thursday 24th and play Barnbougle/Lost Farm that would be awesome. I played a local Jack Nicholas designed track, Kinloch at the weekend. Not sure how it compares to Barnbougle but figured it would be a good warm up.

Really looking forward to it. Very Happy

    Nice course Kiwi.
Barnbougle and Lost farm look a little bit more true links. Both courses are built on natural formed sand dunes, grass is natural and there are almost no trees to be seen. Barnbougle runs mostly east/west in direction so one nine will play mainly straight into the wind, with the other nine its right behind you. Lost farm plays more in all directions and does go a little bit more inland. Both courses have some big elevation changes, and as i said before Barnbougles greens can be downright cruel.

First attempt at linking a web site , but for anyone interested the above course is where the next chapter of gr/cs matchplay will take place on the 24th of Oct. Kiwi has been in touch and our handicaps are within two of each other so its straight of the stick, no strokes to be given.

Results were posted on Gr Dave and i was leaving it to Kiwi to celebrate, as he got the victory 3&2. Really tough day with the wind blowing an absolute gale for the whole day, so the golfing standard was a little below normal. Some holes we were hitting 300+ metre drives with the wind behind us, other holes we struggled to hit a 7 iron 100 metres. Few drives disappeared sideways! Not sure how many balls Kiwi lost, but i had 8 less than when i started:lol: After about the 6th one i had visions of a qtong walk off....not!!
Kiwi liked the layout and we had some great conversation about all the GR regulars. Unfortunately no video was shot ( don't think we would have been able to hold it steady) but we took some still shots which i think Kiwi might post. As for in the bag, Kiwi's mp32's did the job against my jpx800 pro's, so they have been retired in favour of my mp52's until next week at least.

Nice to see Kiwi get a win. He's one of the nicest guys I've ever met so it was with much regret that I gave him such a lashing on the course. I remember him hitting some monster drives. He's also a very fit fellow, not that I was looking. You guys would be amazed to know that I've lost 18 pounds since June. I weigh around 152 but still hitting it just as far as I ever did...which is much farther than the average mortal man who plays golf.

    Thanks FD

Sorry no video was shot guys. We were kind of rushed teeing off so didn't have time for a WITB segmen. But honestly I didn't think either of us had the charisma to pull it off with the same panache as a genuine club ho like OP did. Wink

Once on the course we were too focused on golfing survival in that wind to worry about shooting video. Unfortunately we didn't have a cameraman like OP's mate Mick to shoot the video for us.

Still it was a great day out with Roo, great course, good company and good fun. Would love to play the course again but hoping for less wind next time. The conditions were brutal which made playing normal golf impossible. We just had to manufacture shots for the conditions and hope for the best. Fabulous link layout though.
