    Latest Topics of interest:

Ferguson, MO: Tourism is up and so is city revenue. Do not walk down the middle of the street. Al Sharpton can be found at the local McDonald's because it has WiFi.

OJ has photos of Kim Kardashian in his jail cell. Fascinating.

Rory wins the PGA by joining the goup ahead of him. Phil should have said he couldn't see.

Something else about Gaza but I have no idea where that is.

Don't forget the Ice Bucket Challenge. My favorite is local tv news people trying to elevate themselves by  doing it following tape of a famous person doing it when they themselves haven't even been challenged.

You have to be challenged by someone who did it after they'd received a valid challenge.

Don't tell anybody but I urinated in the ice buckets over at Channel 17 before their sports guys took the challenge.

Geologists question which tunnels are wider and better equipped: those of the Hamas in Gaza or Kim Kardashian;s birth canal.

The solution to the unrest in Ferguson seems obvious. Divert their attention to something else. Like maybe some Ebola virus.

Some gifts just keep on giving...

Ebola is coming it's only when. I'm scrapping my restaurant plans. It's a shame what will become of fresh produce. Sanitation and prevention will become the real homeland security. The loss avenue will be lined with products and services that are exposed. The profit avenue will see prevention p & s-s.

Everything from fashion to food will adapt...

You are definitely in tune with something big. In business, when the market gives you lemon, turn that turd into gold. This will be the savior of the restaurant industry: the minature neutron bomb. A suitcase sized device placed inline with a conveyor (sort of like the Thousands Standing Around conveyor at the airports where your stuff rolls through the xray machine) with a neutron field box that kills all living organisms in the box instantly. So all your produce, meats, dairy, condiments etc. get neutroned before entering the backend of the store. Initial cost will be high and the monthly electric bill will be higher but I'm sure you'll be able to get one with a sweet lease/purchase deal and the Government will offer a real quick depreciation schedule on the gear. Beats the hell out of Chapters 11 and 7 of The Code.

That ice bucket challenge is the latest "look at me" phenomenon to come out of social media.
I read about a high school football game in Louisville being postponed because of some social media thing about breaking laws for 24 hours.
Maybe I'm too old and not looking to chase tang, but social media has no upside to me.

Right after Trayvon Martin was made good by Georgie Porgie, someone posted Trayvon's most recent bleatings on Twitter. I lost any sympathy for him after reading them but it seems no one in the Media took the effort to do same and he was portrayed for weeks as a good boy confirming his grandmother's opinion of him. I can't wait for Michael 'Brown's spew to be posted.

The funny thing is that all those mouth=breathers who expose their inner psyches on the Social Media either don't know or don't care that there are thousands of highly paid government employees and consultants reading every inanity they spit into the ether. The readers are primarily headquartered at what they call "Ford Meade" but in actuality their facility is removed from that army base and just off the Baltimore-Washington Parkway between DC Baltimore. Its called National Security Agency. Their brief is to monitor foreign traffic but you'd better believe they catch everything with the program called "Carnivore."

Lived by Fort Meade and drove by the NSA building many times. Big sonsabitch but guessing what was underground dwarfed the above ground facilities.

Have a buddy of mine who is kind of paranoid about big government. With his smartphone, which he needs for his business, he never allows them to update his location when he downloads anything. Tried to tell him that it don't make a damn bit a difference because as long as his cell phone is on they can find him.

To all of you OLD guys ragging on the youngin's for their irresponsible behavior on social media, I say this:

You all are guilty of saying far worse things out the passenger window of your buddy's car, while all hopped up on whatever your flavor of the moment was. No point in denying it, we've all done it. We were no different.

Actually, I bet we were worse. Much worse. Thankfully word didn't get around back then the way it does today... as the saying goes, "If the walls could talk" then we'd be in trouble.

I try not to be too hard on kids today, because I don't recall being under the same scrutiny, nor the same pressure that kids today have to deal with. Their social circles are many orders of magnitude larger than ours were. We were fishes in a small pond. Kids today swim in much larger ponds, alongside far more species of fishes. Most of them do a better job of getting along than we ever did, even if a few of them can't seem to help but behave like their terrible parents. We could learn a lot from those damned kids.

Sure we did, but I'd certainly think twice about taking out a full page ad in the paper announcing my d-baggery to the world. I'm hoping upon hope that social media becomes a hula hoop by the time my kids have access. I also know that will not happen, but there is always hope.

Dude, face it. You're fukked.  Laughing

I'm so glad I never spawned. One of me was all this world could handle. I can't imagine the havoc my children would have wreaked.

Social media isn't that bad but more importantly if you don't participate you'll be left out. For me it's kind of essential because I have friends and associates in many different places. I really don't want to have to call all of them. if I'm braving a tropical storm, enjoying a swell, heading to Boston or making a mass invite to my place for the winter it's so much easier than the alternatives.

Likewise it's great to see what they are up to through pictures and discussion.  Sure the shit gets out of hand.  My GF noticed I accepted a friend request from a girlfriend of hers who had hidden motives and I had to deal with that. Most days someone's wife posts baby photos that are god damn annoying. So the fucking kid said something. I don't care.

Right now I have three or four videos almost every day of the damn ice bucket challenge.  I was mentioned but made a donation. It's just too me too at this point. Besides, isn't a donation the better response?

But overall it's a laborsaving way of keeping in touch and enjoying pics and vids. Also, I'm not saying I scout friends' friends for talent and potential dates but if I needed to I would.

I concede that it's fine for responsible adults. Those aren't the people effing up their lives on social media, though sometimes it's out of their control. A fellow consultant was FB friends with a bunch of people on our client. He was a typical Texas bubba with a ranch and horses and huge truck and huge gut. Nice guy who I used to play cards with and hang out after work. Someone posted on his page that he was a rapist. He was heartbroken. An ex-wife with mental problems was harassing him and he had to get the cops involved. I believe him, but it doesn't matter. According to FB, he is a rapist.
My wife handles the kids' pictures on social media.

Several years ago my wife created a FB page for me. I have been on it exactly twice. There are people from my way-way past trying to communicate with me. The problem is that once I bite on it, it becomes sort of public in the Out There. So I stay off. One of them is a guy who got me into trouble back in 1965 and I haven't seen him since 1966. Now he wants to re-live old times. Too dangerous.

Now my wife who is a lot younger than me is the Queen Diva of FB and conducts a lot of business over it. We have relatives and friends all over as far away as Australia so she takes care of all of those peoples.

How easy it would be to create a faux persona on social media and really mess with and control peoples. I'm sure there's lots of that going on. I bet the CIA has recruited hundreds, if not thousands, to do exactly that. Local cops, too. To catch all sorts of undesireables like pedophiles, thiefs, murderers and rapists, like your guy from Texas.

One of the reasons I stay off FB is I might get in trouble posting what I really think. Like I think it would be a really cool thing to do in Ferguson, if I was in charge of the Poleece, would be to stage some snipers with suppressed rifles with rubber bullets (or maybe real bullets) to hit the guys who are lighting or have just lit but not yet thrown the Molotav cocktails. That way you would have real flamers to video until they turn into Kripy Kritters. Wouldn't that drive Al Shopton and The Reverend Doctor Jesse Jackson bonkers. Might get me in trouble with the PC crowd, though.

I'm fairly lucky in that I don't own a ranch and don't have a big gut.. I also didn't get into big trouble when I was younger.

    So I'm in the clear.

I'm with mongrel on this topic. I also have a FB page I look at maybe twice a year. Never changes. Same old shit with people posting the most boring and useless information, thoughts and pictures. I could give a crap if little Johnny or Jenny is finally trained not to go in their pants or if they got a participation award in some sport where they don't even keep score.

If I want to talk to somebody I'll call em. If its just a short question I'll text him.
I cherish and enjoy my privacy and with all the bullshit floating around electronically no wonder our country is turning into the PC mamby pambies we've become.

Right. If the dude or dudette was not my friend in high school in 1964, why in the fuck would I want to befriend him/her in 2014? (unless maybe there's a 40 year old daughter who is widowed, good looking, no sprog, and was just the sole winner of a $300 million Power Ball jackpot.)

I feel badly for you guys. Well… perhaps you get enough enjoyment out of your underground bomb shelters to offset. Don't forget the tinfoil helmets when you're down there. To easy to steal one's thoughts these days.

I've been getting pretty cool surf videos all summer. This winter is going to be huge. Looking forward to the powder shot vids. Maybe you just need better friends…

It should be pretty exciting far away from where you live. Down here much closer to sea level in densely-developed urban and sub-urban areas there may be some spread of the action underway in the northwestern suburb of St. Louis. Feguson. Coming soon to a 'hood or burb-clave near you. Could happen in my village. Lots of young black males sauntering around on the streets. Of course they will walk on the street wherever there is a nice sidewalk available. I blame it on their upbringings. I mean I was so young I can't remember when my mother or father taught me to walk on the sidewalk and not on the road. Now I understand that many of these modern youth don't have a mother and father living with them under the same roof so I will cut some slack and put it on the local taxpayer-funded public school systems to operate in loco parentis and educate little Michael or Travon or Antwann or Gee-Shawn or whatever into the protocol of walking in the great outdoors and the benefits to self and public safety of walking on sidewalks instead of the streets.

Now this latest victim in Ferguson was evidently walking in the street instead of the sidewalk. Although he was but a young buck, reports indicated he stood at least 6'2" and tipped the scales at close to 300 pounds. This would make him a heavy duty pickup amongst sub compacts among his peers. Maybe instead of shooting him, the police should have secured him to a rollback and taken him to the Impound Lot whilst his owner could be located and issued a citation for allowing the large vehicle to be rolling on the public roadways without an operator.

Now the cop who shot him might have just as well sounded his horn and, when the 300 pound slug failed to respond, run him over with the front bumper of the patrol cruiser. I mean Tony Stewart cleared the track of a witless mouth-breather who was dumb enough to walk in the traffic lane but he was a Caucasion. Is everyone calling for Stewart's arrest or lynching? Of course not because they know who was at fault. In this Ferguson case, if the cop had just bumped him real good everyone would know that, yeah, if you walk in the street in the traffic lane, you liable to be hit.

So us folk down near the flood plains are stocking up on ammo, fuel for the generators, freeze-dried foot, and other necessities for when the Descendents of Slaves decide to stage another rebellion.

I get your frustration over the politicization of bad acts. Most of us here disdain political correctness for whatever reason.

I choose to look at The Ferguson episode as a win win. Steal, challenge the police physically and you should be target practice here, there and everywhere else. I don't care what color you are or any other bullshit irrelevant facts. I have no interest in paying for your incarceration or societal pollution.

As far as police are concerned they are despicable. They deserve to be put on trial, challenged, controlled and beaten about the face and neck. Whether it was San Diego, Orange County, Boston, New York, Utah, Los Angeles and any place else I've lived they have crossed the line big time. They are nitwits who have huge character flaw's and a deficiency in intelligence.

Police not only regularly and systematically abuse their power, the laws are designed at the misdemeanor level to encourage them to do so. I would prefer an armed self policing public to the morons wearing uniforms, badges and guns any day.

I would never act on these feelings because what purpose with that serve? But as a spectator these kinds of episodes are Music to me.

Both sides will end up looking ridiculous in this. It's a great day.

    Agree on both accounts.

We had a case in portland where the parents of a drunk and high teenager was talking about committing suicide. They couldn't control him so they called the cops. The cops showed and things escalated, as they tend to when the police arrive on a scene. The kid grabbed a kitchen knife. The parents were doing a decent job getting him to calm down but the kid goes out the front door in distress. The police ordered the parents into the house. Within a few minutes the cops open fire on the kid hitting him multiple times. The crazy part is the cops said they ordered the parents into the house for their safety. This was moments before they unloaded their guns toward the house. 6 bullets missed the child and when through the front door.

Consistent with the experiences I've had. Cops are possibly the single most dysfunctional, problem causing segment of society and they're armed dangerous and systematically alter the facts.  The cop that manufactured on me made the mistake of falsifying and then not signing the report.

It was a manipulative tactic that normally works...unless the defendant subpoenas prior reports and finds a pattern of his doing that. My cop is on administrative leave pending termination. I'm currently negotiating a settlement with the City. Those prior defendants convicted this way are having those convictions overturned. Very cool and very satisfying. But I still lost 60 days of driving privileges and the consequences in total aren't offset by a few thousand dollars.

One cop eliminated… a couple of hundred thousand to go.

If there were an adequately armed citizenry, all the police would need to do would be to write up the citations, file the paperwork with the Courts and house the critters pending trial. If the critter is still alive, that is.

Jesus, I can't believe what the hell is going on here. OK. Ferguson is mostly black. Cops are mostly white. People are bitching because they are picking on blacks. The majority of citizens are black so doesn't that mean that most of the crimes are caused by blacks?

Whatever happened to an individual being responsible for his own actions.

Or are we still saying that all us white folk are holding the black man down?

Well, all I have to say, is you reap what you sow. You want to walk around town acting like a gangster or dressing like a clown with your pants hanging off your ass, you get whats coming to ya. Right is right and wrong is wrong. How come most of these assholes always say they were brought up being good christians and they end up turning to public enemy's? I didn't cause them to be like that and I find it hard to believe anybody on this site did it.

The sonsabitches are going after the liberal feelings of the mamby pambies.

My interaction with cops has been generally OK. Then again, I have never been arrested. I did get a public intox ticket once in college, but I actually deserved it and should have gotten worse.
Traffic stops have been handled OK, although one time I believe the dude was purposely taking a long time because I told him I was late for a meeting.
I've only been truly disgusted once. Cops were cold-calling for donations to the FOP. I had donated the prior year and didn't feel like donating again. The cop, who I'm certain was drunk, repeated my name and address and mentioned how people with FOP stickers on their cars are likely to be let off on traffic stops. Then he repeated my name and address again, as if insinuating he'd be on the lookout for me. I could picture his drunk condescending grin while he's borderline threatening me. I asked for his name and he hung up.
