let's assume that female Pros were allowed to compete at the Masters and play 6400-6600 yds which is normal for their tourneys (just to be fair, male Pros still play 7000+ yds) , do U guys/girls/AC-DC think that they would do OK or even have a chance to win?

I think the average female pro would have trouble reaching and holding a lot of the par 4 greens, but I think the ones who hit it longer could do well provided they can putt. Let's face it, Augusta National is a beautiful course to look at on TV when the azaleas and cherry trees are in full bloom, but it's really not much more than a mini-golf course with tightly mowed fairways when you get right down to it. The Masters is almost always decided by a putting competition - there are lots of female pros who can hit it past Zach Johnson, and he's won the thing. Actually, now that I think about it, I think a female pro has already won the green jacket.
So yes, a good female pro could potentially beat the likes of Zach Johnson and win the Masters.

Naah. I think the muscle one requires to get the required spin is not there. Most holes would be layup since they wont be able to land it softly for GIR

Yeah, but in the end it's still a putting contest. Chicks can putt just as well as us dudes. I could see Ochoa in her prime winning it. Sorenstam would have contended. The idea of a woman winning the Masters isn't THAT far fetched, if they were allowed to play. It's the kind of course that shortknockers can still score on, I fail to see how the women would be at a serious disadvantage. Wait until Tony chimes in (if he's actually interested in discussing women's golf and not just plugging his blog). He knows what these ladies are capable of, he watches them on a weekly basis.
If it was dry, and drives were rolling out, and the greens got slick - for sure one of the LPGA elite would have a shot. Believe it or not, the only difference between an elite LPGA player and a top PGA player is the distance they hit the ball. They are every bit as good around the greens, and any seasoned golfer will agree that it's the short game that produces low scores. Their chances of winning are better than you'd think.

FON, LPGA players are not in the same category around the greens. There is a lot of strength required to control a ball out of the rough. The women typically don't play with deep rough around the green.
Although I will admit that the Masters is probably the best chance woman would have competing in a men's major (from an equitable set of tees). The basically isn't any rough.

Look at the 14 year old Chinese boy's round yesterday and that is about what you'd expect from the best of the split-tails. One over.

He's the BEST advertisement for golf clubs in China. I just read somewhere that there are only 350,000 Chinese who could afford to play golf out of 1.35 billion in China... and one thing for sure, ASIAN buys golf game, i.e. they believe they play better with newer clubs... There are plenty of shops in Shanghai selling "fake" clubs (I was in one of the store and the lady told me "Give me price" and gave a HUGE calculator... that's how you negotiate in China, use a HUGE calculator to punch in numbers back and forth..." Here in one problem: unless they live around big towns (Shanghai, Hongkong, Beijing...) they will have a hard time finding a golf course... so no matter what, the golf boom won't happen in China unless they make it affordable which will NEVER happen... It's the prestige to play golf, to belong to a private country club... Yes, I was born and lived in Saigon, I know it well

Exactly. If the course is playing short, I could see an elite LPGA player contending. The Masters is like a typical LPGA event stretched out by 1000 yards, and as I said before, it's usually a putting contest. Those greens are mini-golf silly. Seriously. I keep looking for the windmill on 16. I doubt I could even stand up on that green after 8 beers, and being a drunk-ass Canadian, that's saying something. I can actually stand up on ice while wearing skates. Don't you Americans give out medals for that sort of demonstration of skill and coordination? The DERPle heart, I believe it's called?
Seriously though, Augusta National is a ridiculously easy course to navigate - it's the greens and the speeds at which they roll them during the Masters which protect par on that course. It's a mini putt with some pretty bushes, nothing more. The women could win there, that's why they won't let them play. That would burn those old coots worse than gonorrhea.

I'm now questioning if some of you actually play golf. Either that, or you've never actually attended an LPGA event. I played in an LPGA pro-am about 10 years ago and I've attended two events.
The average LPGA tour player, if they played Augusta National during The Masters with the same setup as the men but played tees at 6,600 yards would probably shoot high 80's to mid 90's.
The BIGGEST difference between the LPGA and PGA tour is putting and pitching. Putting being the number 1 difference between the two. The women aren't even close to being as good at putting. Not even remotely close. Look at where they place the flags at LPGA tour events - almost always somewhere in the middle of the flat green. The women would have fits on Augusta's greens.
Further, you guys have this idea that Zach Johnson is a short hitter. He's only short compared to other PGA tour memebers. I guarantee you he hits it 25 yards past the average LPGA tour player.

Actually, every course should be set up at about 6000-6300 yards, with flatter greens and wider fairways, no matter who is playing on it.
That's the only way we'll see the true difference between tour pros, male or female, and real recreational players.
A decent recreational player should shoot about 85.
An excellent recreational player should shoot around par on a good day.
A tour pro should shoot in the high fifties. Even if they're shooting 72 on those courses that they play, it still isn't real golf. It's a game made up just for them.

Any lpga tour who played Augusta this week would be taken straight from the course to a padded cell and sedated for about a month. That course is strictly for top male pros at the top of their games, for anyone from the lpga 100 would be a good score. The greens and pin positions would eat them alive. It would be hilarious to watch them continually finish further away from the hole or off the green after each putt. They would also have to land short and bounce on to hold the greens, which we know isnt possible on many holes there. 12, 13 and 15 would throw up some huge numbers for lpga players.

Yeah, that's how it just hit me when I re-read the headline. Could give new meaning to "Hospitality Tent." And I assume that they would do better than down in the southern bible belt unless they had some cooking staff spicing up the two dollar cheese sandwiches and iced teas with Viagra.

Those in Oklahoma would think it's sucking dick... unfortunately there isn't any interesting golf event in OK

Southern Hills has hosted some pretty good majors over the years. Including the Hubert Green death threat tournament. Forget which one and the year but it is a hell of a story.

But Hubert won that tournament. Did you ever see him play in person? Man, that dude had the most hunched-over stance and low hands I've ever seen. How he could win anything is beyond me. And drink? I've seen him down half a tall high-boy glass of straight gin between holes. Dude had an attitude, too, so I imagine the death threat wasn't some idle gesture.
