    Broke 80.

A beautiful, sunny day on eastern Long Island. 72*, slight breeze.

    3 birds, 7 pars for a 79 cheers

I hacked off an inch on my G15 Serrano60 shaft and added a bit of lead tape to the bottom and I hit every fairway. Nice easy swings.
My approach shots were killers as I think I hit 13/14 greens.
Polywogs played havoc with the putting!

I'm sure I'll shoot 90's on Monday haha!

Nice work! It's a great nut to crack.

Funny thing, I can remember a few times when I almost broke 80, but not the first. I should search GR to see when that was...

Congratulations mate. Great milestone to finally knock off.

How did you close it out? Were you aware you might break 80 down the final stretch?

Nervous in the last few holes?

No nerves....we were just playing along. I kept saying after each hole, "Another par."
Birdied the 18th to finish out. A tough, uphill, off camber fairway to a narrow hole. My drive stuck on the high side and I hit it to 6 feet from the hole. Putt hit a polywog and skidded into the hole.

I didn't know until we added it all up what I had shot tongue
So I bought the first and second rounds afterwards!

Very cool. Always fun to put it away with a birdie.

Congratulations. I don't remember when I first broke 80 but my father would swear that I shot a 75 out near L.A. in 1967. Of course I was doing some psychedelics back then and it wouldn't have mattered if it was a 75 or 125. In fact the 125 might have been more fun because you'd have gotten to hit the ball more often. Twenty years after that I was in the 70's about a third of the time when I was playing at the private club. My last round in the 70's was back in September of 1990 in a stroke play tournament. Shot a 76 with two double bogies. Since then, I've come up a couple of strokes short in a good number of rounds. Of course the strokes thrown away on those and almost all my rounds now are from about 40 yards or so and in. My last round two days ago was a 98 that should have been an 88 with a modicum of chipping prowess. What a goat-f*ck golf can be.

So now just remember: DO NOT under any circumstances decide that your driver shaft is too short and it is causing you distance.

Nice work. With 3 birdies and 13 or 14 GIRs, shouldn't that be something close to even par?

I'm guessing pollywogs are bad for putting. I always thought pollywogs were tadpoles. Maybe the greens were underwater?

Pollywogs are those who have yet to cross the Equator. Those who have are Shellbacks. The at-sea ceremony for the initiation of the Pollywogs is know as "Keel-hauling".

Yap, I knew that. My bro was in the navy for 10 years. IO PAC Tour on the USS Constellation back in the 70's. But in this context I doubt his putting was suspect due to that type of Pollywog.

I remember the Constellation off the coast of RVN around 1971 and think it was home-ported in SDiego as was I.

That's awesome. It still hasn't broken 80 here but we don't get many days like that and they're usually in July or August.
