I have allowed multiple choices as there are more than one solution to this burning topical and current issue. I think I have covered all the options in my poll but let me know if there are any glaring omissions.

Living in a good neighborhood is really nice if you can afford it. My neighborhood is just OK but close to bad neighborhoods. This is sort of a bonus since you know that you should always be on some sort of alert. Living in the nice neighborhoods can lull you into a sense of safety and security. Plus the nice neighborhoods are where all the nice stuff is inside those nice houses which makes the nice neighborhood a nice target for denizens of the bad neighorhoods. The nice neighborhood in Newtown had a nice house owned by a nice dead teacher who realized that she needed to have some nice firepower in case some denizens of bad neighborhoods came to do some not nice deeds. However, she was too nice to her not-nice son and should have put him into the care of psych professionals in a nice max security facility. I'll bet her funeral was really nice.

Why are Christians, who are supposedly going to this wonderful place called heaven, the most fearful of death?

KP, you've left out the most heralded right wing response which is "No way. It's just another step in taking away our rights!"

When facing the business end of the barrel of a locked and loaded firearm, not only Christians but Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, Sikhs, Zoroasterians, Scientologists, Atheists, Methodists, Wiccans, Episcopalians, Communists, New Dealers, Pagans, Presbyterians, Mormons and all the rest probably fear death also.

True enough. Even during his last days, the Buddha was fearful of dying. But I would think that someone that's got God and heaven in their back pocket would be less likely to 1) worry about someone killing them and 2) make sure they're packed so that they could defend against it.
As someone who doesn't know if God or heaven exists, I find that I don't worry about such things happening to me. I've been held up in Baltimore twice, both times with a gun, both times I was unarmed. I happily gave the perp my money and let him go on his merry way. I'm still alive. If I had a concealed weapon and felt that I had to "defend" myself, I'm not so sure I would be here today.

I wish there was more of a gentleman's agreement between criminals and victims when it comes to theft. I seriously have no issue with surrendering the cash in the wallet, but it's a serious pain in the ass to lose your license, cancel credit cards, lose coffee cards, etc.Playa Hata wrote:Mostly German wrote:When facing the business end of the barrel of a locked and loaded firearm, not only Christians but Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, Sikhs, Zoroasterians, Scientologists, Atheists, Methodists, Wiccans, Episcopalians, Communists, New Dealers, Pagans, Presbyterians, Mormons and all the rest probably fear death also.

Someone broke into a gym locker when I working in Shithole, NY (known as Buffalo) and gacked my wallet. It's not easy to get on an airplane without ID of any kind.

Yeah as soon as I posted the poll I new I should have included something about defending yourself against a govt that is trying to take away your rights and also something about a Jewish conspiracy.

I know what you mean. My car was broken into one night right outside my house and they stole my stereo and wallet that I had foolishly left in the glove box. I had to first cancel then replace bankcards, credit cards, drivers license etc. Major pain in the ass. Six months later I'm cleaning the guttering on the roof and lo and behold there is my wallet including credit cards etc missing only the cash that was in it that night. Now why couldn't that crook have been a gentleman and left it on the passenger seat minus the cash?

Heaven sounds Ok but the Muslims have got it sussed. 78 virgins of paradise await. Does anybody know if all Muslim men are entitled to 78 virgins or is it only the guys that blow themselves up?

The problem with the Muslims is that the number of virgins varies from 70 to 77. Most of the guys really don't care so long as its more than one virgin. The Big Celestial Joke is that the Muslim women are the only ones who get virgins of the opposite sex. What do you call baby camels and goats?

Another question I have is how Christians, who at least on some level are aligned with a message of human brotherhood and love thy neighbor, seem to revel in the idea that many people are going to hell for eternity.
How can any rational person be OK with the idea that people you know, decent but not perfect, will be lit on fire for EVER! Worse than being exposed to nuclear fallout and having a painfully slow death from thyroid cancer. Or worse than slowly bleeding to death from multiple gunshot wounds to the stomach Worse than any movie hit ordered on Joe Pesci… even worse than being nailed to a cross.
Think about the last time your burned yourself, now imagine being lit on fire FOREVER. And yet, many Christians seem to get off on the idea that the heretics will suffer this fate. You see angry Christian posts blogging all the time about how while they will be strumming a harp their blog target will be burning in hell.
I hope the “Christian” men understand that there is no porn in heaven. It will probably be in hell… so at least while your on fire you can watch a flaming Jenna Jameson inserting a flaming French tickler into Lindsay Lohan’s flaming ass.
I don’t get it… when did the ministry become “accept your savior” or “burn in hell forever.” Great recruitment speech… and apparently it works.

What I don't get is why they want virgins. I'd rather have a few women in there who know their way around the block. Nothing worse than than living eternity with a bunch of women who just lie there.

LOL. Fine point. I can understand wanting one, perhaps even two virgins. But the rest I'd want to be freaky skanks.
As to Boom's point, most Christians don't relish or enjoy the idea that people they know are spending an eternity in hell. That's why they try to 'save' us from our predicament. However, they can only do so much and it's on us to save ourselves. I think my Dad prays for me and my family's salvation every day. He hates the idea that his son will go to hell.
That said, think about what an "eternity" means. We'll live on this planet for about 100 years if we're lucky. If we're in hell for as long as the universe has been in existence, we'd have to endure 140,000,000 human lifetimes with the devil for a bad decision we made in this one. Of course, eternity, by definition, is longer than the lifespan of the universe, so it'll be even longer than that. Sounds reasonable.

If they're just lying there you're clearly doing something wrong FD. Come on! You can train them to perform exactly as you want them to and all 78 of them can't be duds. Sheesh where's TRG when you need him?
