    Hey gents,

dunno how long its been since I was around here... the link dropped off my menu bar's right side and I forgot about it. Over time.

Back now. Haven't been able to do much golfing... working full time right now... I get to the range every few weeks but I've lost confidence because my left knee hurts so much now, it's intimidating.

    Getting old. Hate that.

Anyways, here I am again. Playing another set of Adams Idea Forged, with another set of TT Black Gold in S... my backup irons are Nike TW Forged. I was hitting them well when I stumbled across the used set of Adams paddles and realized where true love lies...

Good to see ya Big Dave. Sorry to hear about your knee. It must be that Tiger Woods like swing. I hear he's had knee and back problems too. Glad to hear you have rekindled your old flame and playing with the Adams paddles (with Black Gold TT shaft) again. I'm still alternating between my old R7 TP's and a set of Mizuno MP 58's. Sold the rest, I mean how many sets of irons does a guy really need? Wink

Dave: I'm about to turn 69 and have not had any knee or other joint problems for several years. I used to go hard at the ball from driver to wedge posting up on the left leg to get that snap through the shot. However, that's damn hard on the left knee so I went to a more rotary swing playing the ball more forward and turning through shots. It has made me more consistent and kept most of the pain away. I can go out to a range and hit 100 or more balls off hard rubber mats without ill effect. I played a set of Adams forged cavity backs for most of last season. They are great feeling clubs with the kbs tour 90 shafts but it took full swings and perfect impact to get decent distances. I chucked them and got a set of 2008 taylor tour burners. The ones with the ugly medallions on the back in the cavity. Haven't played them yet but hit a thousand or more balls with them in the past couple of months off mats and grass and they are at least twice as easy to hit than my Adams or any of my Mizunos and go farther and straighter with much less effort. When you get old, you need all the help you can get. Hope your weather gets better.

My prob is the knee, the left one, has taken the abuse of 40 years of golf, and now just to crouch into the hitting position with anything other than driver is painful. No more cartilage. Clunky bone on bone. Taking supplements but they haven't helped yet. I think my sticks are still good, I just need to teach myself a slightly adjusted stance and swing path so I can be a bit more upright... still, at 6'4" it's hard to be upright with short irons. Gotta bend the knees to get down to the ball.

I'm not a big effort guy, don't have to teach myself to back off or go with a weaker shaft... just have to move through the good positions to be consistent... and the good positions now hurt. Oh well. I'm still hitting it good... just not enjoying that as much.

Yeah, I"m afraid of Memorial. :-) Crowded. I learned to play there back in HS in the seventies. It was crowded THEN, and much worse now.

Yep, still in same area. Let me know if you're headed here with time to play. :-)

Can't stay away from the paddles... :-) I am still holding those Nike TW Forged blades, mostly cuz they are on Black Gold shafts... I can't seem to find any irons that play BADLY when they're on those shafts... :-)

How many irons does a man need.... you've tossed out a philosophical question.

If you hit the longer shafted clubs better with less pain, maybe you are a candidate for same length clubs. The kid who won the NCAA college tournament last year plays a set. All his irons are the same length and I think his driver is relatively short. Of course the lie angles need to be drastically adjusted but with forged irons with the right alloys this would not be a problem. I recall reading that there is a True Temper descending weight shaft that is very good for making up these sets and maybe it is the Black Gold line. The concept is to select the length iron that you hit the best and adjust the rest of the set to that iron. Of course lots of weight would need to be added to some of the heads to get consistent feel. I was toying with the idea myself last year before I happened on to my new set of old Taylormades that suit me well. The Adams CB2 set I was playing are forged although not with the Mizuno alloys 1020 or 1035 which are supposed to be the bees' knees of adjustability. However, the CB2 are three times as easy to bend. Go figure.

Big Dave! I feel like we are kindred spirits with our matches over the years. Hope all is well and that your knee gets better. Keep on that exercise program of walking everyday and losing weight. The extra weight might be the primary issue for the knee, not the golf. Not trying to be mean but just saying it as it is. Me, I play golf once or twice every two weeks and my handicap is up to 8.4 index. We had some great matches.

Francis is the dude who owned GR and let it fall into disrepair.
So much time has passed since I've corresponded with any of my GR brethren. Not much has changed with me. Still at the SPCC, no new children to report (and no more scheduled ever), still married, still consulting in Sh!thole, KY. One fun HB fact of interest. I got the chance to play Pine Valley in early November. An unbelievable experience.

Thanks for the link, JT. It must have been a different thread where I took up for qtong and blamed Dave, pottsy's and mmward's for slow play, dressing like slobs, and sullying his good name at the country club.

I clicked on the link to the Qtong thread. Epic in every way. It was great how HB turned it from all fingers pointing at Qtong to blaming the other players for how they dressed. He walked off the course after inviting these guys to his club, had lunch, went to the range and then joined his fellow CC members for a skins game. Legendary. All things considered he was polite whilst walking away with "later guys".
