Same on you, mate! Less than two hours to go back here in the State's Eastern time zone. Hope your summer is pleasant. Our winter has not been bad so far. It was 50 (F) today and probably similar the next few days so I'll go out and hit some balls just to keep the feel alive.

Glad to hear it Mongrel! Away on vacation currently so haven't picked up a club for a couple of weeks but looking forward to playing as soon as I get home. Wink

    January 2, 2016:

Happy New Year to all of our Caddy Shack linksters.

I didn't realize that it's also a new year for our friends who live their lives upside down. I was hoping that I could visit and wind back a few years while I was there, but I guess that it doesn't work that way. Too bad, because 2016-1946 = 70. I've got to figure something out fast.

There's no winter holiday scheduled for this year--went to British Columbia and No. California this past summer--so the clubs are put away until April. Whether I'll still be able to swing them in April is something that remains to be seen. For now, I'm planning on it, but you known how it can go with plans.

2015 was a bit of a comeback year for me. I hardly played at all in 2014, but this past year, I relapsed and fell off the wagon. I finished 2015 at 12.8, but that's not a number that's trending downward. I'll never again see the eight that once followed my name, but in 2015, I did have one particularly satisfying 77. Plenty of oxycodone with my breakfast allowed me to putt that day, but Dave Pelz does not list that as a reliable method and my putting for most of the year showed that.

I'm talking a lot about the past year and speculating little about this coming season. That probably means something as well, but I'll purge that thought from my mind for now. What does concern me is that my solo rounds will no longer count for handicap under the new rules. Solo rounds are the one time I can post a legitimate medal score. Playing with friends, there are conceded putts and pickups on lost holes. X followed by an estimated score goes on the card according to the rules, and I don't know how good a score is actually being turned in.

Enough of that. Once again, Happy New Year, friends.

I guess the fussy USGA figured that the prohibition against posting solitary round scores would be a heavy blow against the dreaded Sand-Baggers. Now I have not played a solitary round since the late '80's when I was a private club member. And on those occasions, I would usually concede myself putts or maybe ignore stroke and distance by-the-book penalties. So my official handicap was lower than it should have been. It didn't matter then because I only really got up for the weekly $5 skins games and we only played off scratch, even if a pro was playing with us. And the pro's were never the overall winners.

Now the group I play with plays by strict USGA rules and, since I only play with the group, it doesn't matter to me. I can see how pissed the solitary players are and I think that the USGA is one of the most over-reactive organizations that establishes rules of play. Not nearly as bad as the U.S. Congress, of course. Allahu Akbar, fucking infidels.

Enjoy your new yr... Played a round last week and one older gentleman (82) who played at this course for the first time shot a 87 at Deerfield, sh$$$$tttt , put me to shame . I played Mizuno 23 , either I have not played them for 2+ yrs or I am getting old ... or a combination of both... I could not play them well... So I am going to put them on fleebay,,,, just bought the Adam Idea a70s set with 3-4-5 gaybrids in place of MX23... I think they would be better for my old age...

    Enjoy your holidays guys/girls/AC-DC
