January 2, 2016:
Happy New Year to all of our Caddy Shack linksters.
I didn't realize that it's also a new year for our friends who live their lives upside down. I was hoping that I could visit and wind back a few years while I was there, but I guess that it doesn't work that way. Too bad, because 2016-1946 = 70. I've got to figure something out fast.
There's no winter holiday scheduled for this year--went to British Columbia and No. California this past summer--so the clubs are put away until April. Whether I'll still be able to swing them in April is something that remains to be seen. For now, I'm planning on it, but you known how it can go with plans.
2015 was a bit of a comeback year for me. I hardly played at all in 2014, but this past year, I relapsed and fell off the wagon. I finished 2015 at 12.8, but that's not a number that's trending downward. I'll never again see the eight that once followed my name, but in 2015, I did have one particularly satisfying 77. Plenty of oxycodone with my breakfast allowed me to putt that day, but Dave Pelz does not list that as a reliable method and my putting for most of the year showed that.
I'm talking a lot about the past year and speculating little about this coming season. That probably means something as well, but I'll purge that thought from my mind for now. What does concern me is that my solo rounds will no longer count for handicap under the new rules. Solo rounds are the one time I can post a legitimate medal score. Playing with friends, there are conceded putts and pickups on lost holes. X followed by an estimated score goes on the card according to the rules, and I don't know how good a score is actually being turned in.
Enough of that. Once again, Happy New Year, friends.
