Who is still bagging your 7W???

... I am... (22* Cally 7W) and off the Ts I hit it longer than my 19* Gaybrid

I'm bagging a 22º wood, but I'm very thankful it doesn't have a "7" on it.

I hate club numbers on either woods or irons because they correlate with this generation's lofts and not mine.

I'm about to turn 69, barely play eight or nine times a year, have one-year old Callaway Edge irons which I actually like, and am still strongly considering a new set of Hogan FW15s for no other reason than they're stamped with actual lofts instead of club numbers. That's how much I hate the club numbers.

My 16, 19, and 22º woods are Wedgewood Golds.

The original lengths were a hybrid-like 40.5", 40", and 39.5".

The lie angles were flat enough to stretch each of them out an extra inch with UST Mamiya 65 Golds.

In as much as they take .335 tips instead of .355/.370s and the heads are reasonably deep front to back, I decided that they were shortish woods and not hybrids.

I use the sixteen off the tee as a 41½" driving spoon and the other two as fairway woods.

But I won't lie. I already have the desired specs written out for Hogans--eight, 27 to 62º in 5º increments, plus a ninth at 20º for a driving iron.

Now it's just a matter of trying to hold on to my sanity before I pull the trigger at $168.00 per club.

played a round this morning, I am in love with my 7W again, really in love with it before and really really in love with it again... I used it all day long to advance the ball to a location where my 7i and up took over, it felt really good when I was NOT in any kind of trouble, only if I could putt better... ended up with a stress-free bogey game, so enjoyable. I did pulled out my 17* 4W once when the lie was excellent, other than that, I could nail/launch it with my old 7W steelhead Cally for about 170 yds straight off the deck, so enjoyable

In my bag now I have gap wedge to 5 iron of the forged Adams CB2's. Bridging the gap between 5 iron which lately I've been carrying 165-170 accurately are three hybrid types. The Taylormade UDI 18*, the original Mizuno T-Zoid Fli Hi 21*, and the original 2006 Cobra Baffler 23*. All three of them have steel iron shafts. Only the Cobra has bulge and roll but I found a new old stock True Temper TX90 stiff driver shaft that I tipped two inches and butt-cut and glued that old Cobra head onto. I cut it to standard 4 iron length and it looks very short but I can knock it 180-190 out of medium rough with little more than a half swing and with the stiff steel shaft, it goes dead straight. The 21* Fli Hi has a flat iron face and I can hit it about the same distance both off the tee and off a good fairway lie. The Taylor Ultimate Driving Iron 18* is the real weapon, though. If I catch it good off the tee, it will fly 210-220 almost dead straight. Off the fairway, it is also dead straight but carries a little less. In the past four rounds, I have hit some miracle approaches from 175 to 200 yards off the fairway that I would never have attempted. I am tempted to use it off the tees in the upcoming club round this Saturday on all but a couple of par 4's and 5's since I've been hitting my mid irons very well lately and I'd rather have a level lie from 150-160 out than a severe downhill or side-hill-ball-above-the-feet from 100 to 130.

I've simplified the wedge situation and carry only the 50* Adams gapper and two of the Taylormade ATV wedges in 54 and 58 degrees. The ones with no bounce angle information. The absolute best out of sand I ever played. Putter is currently the Odyssey #7 White Hot Pro...the "Fang". I put a thick Tiger Shark grip on it and am getting used to it. Hate to keep changing putters and this one will hopefully stay in the bag. This new club configuration is a mixed bag. My USGA index dropped about 1.5 in two weeks so I don't get as many strokes. Shit, I'll just have to bear down more and think before I pick a club.

I played with a 1-cap player at the Deerfield GC 3 wks ago and he gave me an advice "What would be a chance for a weekend player to fly to a green from 200 yds out? almost ZERO... so do yourself a favor, ADVANCE the ball to a location where you could have a much greater chance for up-n-down" I follow his advice and my scores are much better hence I enjoy the game much more
