I scored one of these brand new off Ebay and it was delivered two days ago. Yesterday, I pulled the stock grip, cut a half inch off the butt, and put on a Golf Pride Tour Wrap grip which is the only grip I use. I took it out to a rec field earlier today and hit maybe 50 balls with it mostly off the tee. This club is an 18* two iron with KBS C-Taper Lite stiff shaft. I was worried that the shaft would be too much for me at 68 years old. It is not. I now have a club for shots I have been previously unable to hit... nice straight bullets on short par 4's or long par 3's. Brand new for $42 plus shipping. This motherfucker gets The Mongrel Seal of Approval.

OK. I played my first 18 holes with this club on a local course I hate. Played it three months ago, my first round of the year, and shot a sporty 125. That's the highest I recall ever counting since I played my first golf hole in 1955. I hate this course for several reasons. When the course was built, they decided to use bent grass for the fairways. Now I like bent grass for greens and it is OK for fairways in certain climates. This former corn and soybean farm needs lots of water on the fairways to prevent it turning brown during the hot dry periods. Of course they have to keep it mown down to the nubbins to satisfy the rubes who think they are playing on PGA Tour quality fairways. This sucks for me since I tend to come down hard with my irons and tend to hit some fat shots. The other thing is the bunkers. Some idiot (probably the Course Designer of Renown) installed way too many bunkers along the fairways and in front of, besides and behind all the greens. What makes it fucked up is that most of them are cut into hills, have steep sides, and were dug too deep to begin with so the sand all settles to the bottom. Oh well......

So I used the #2 Ultimate Driving iron frequently. Before I teed off, I figured I'd use it off the tee on only on three tight short par 4's. Well, the air was real humid and with all the watering and some recent rain, drives weren't getting much roll so I tried it for my second shot on the par 5 first hole. Hit it maybe 190 or so with a little right tail off a tight wet bentgrass lie to less than 90 yards to the pin.

Second hole medium par 4. Had 175-180 to elevated green, same tight wet lie, hit the club to right rough just off green. Eased off on it a bit and aimed right so as not to hit the green and roll off the back.

Fourth hole longish par 4 with second shot uphill to green. Hit second shot with the club to maybe 20 yards short. Again, took some off of it and hit the shot maybe 175.

Fifth hole par 5, hit the club for second shot within 90 yards of the pin.

Sixth hole short par 4 with tight fairway. Teed the ball up and hit the club with a slight intentional pull hook move down from the top and yanked it maybe ten yards left of my aim line. Hit it solid and the ball headed for the fairway bunker at the top of the hill left but cleared it and came to rest in left rough just off fairway leaving about 100 yards to pin. Went ten yards farther than my playing partner's driver.

Seventh hole funky short par 4 dogleg left. Hit it off tee maybe 175 aiming at a 150 yard to green stake but pushed it right and was left with about 175 to the pin which was cut about 10 feet from the front edge of the green. Which is about 15 feet from the edge of a very large pond. So again I took the club and made about a three quarter 80% speed swing because over the green is death and the ball off the clubface was headed straight for the pin. In fact, it hit the pin and bounced back about 8 feet. The pitch mark was about three feet in front of the hole in dead alignment from where I hit the shot. I was so shocked, I missed the birdie putt.

Tenth hole par 5 hit a drive that went too far and had a downhill lie second shot. Hit the club with a punch type swing and sliced it into the rough less that 60 yards from the green.

Eleventh hole a short dogleg right par 4 hit the club off the tee making mediocre contact with a fade around the trees leaving about 115 yards to the hole.

Thirteenth hole par 5 hit the club from a decent fairway lie to within 75 yards from the pin.

Fifteen is a short dogleg left with a narrow chute from the tee uphill to the landing area. Hit the club and caught it a little heavy and the ball hit about 180 and spun back two feet in the soggy fairway.

Sixteen a longish par 3 with the hole cut as far back as possible about 180 from the tee. Hit the club with 3/3 swing at maybe 80% speed and ended up 15 short right of the hole and finally sunk a birdie putt.

Sorry for the long winded description but this is the most versatile and straightest long iron I ever hit. That I could hit it off the worst lies imaginable for me is amazing. The club is as easy to hit as my 7 iron and I was straighter with it than my pitching wedge. I did not pull one shot (unintentionally) and my right misses were maybe 10 yards max from my intended line. If you have consistency problems with hybrids and fairway woods with bulge and roll but strike irons with flat faces pretty well, this is your stick. Mongrel out.

Forgot to mention that yesterday the I was 39 strokes better than when I played the course the last time in April. I finished second only because a once a year playing member decided that yesterday was his one club round and shot a 102 or so and got 36 strokes for a net one under mine.
