Arcadia. I remember going to Santa Anita the first time in the 1950's with my father, uncle and older cousin. What a lovely little town. And in January when there were two feet of snow back home in PA, we watched the races in perfect 70* weather with the snow-capped mountains on the horizon. This was before the Smog.

It's interesting and unsurprising to me given my background includes a recent five year stint traveling to Asia to do business mostly with both mainland and Hong Kong Chinese.  Each country has its set of opportunities and challenges.

As we know or should know, being mostly of white profile, the US's problem is it's ramp of decline caused mostly by self victimization as it seizes and stumbles in the shockwaves of it's past success. As the discussions on the forum you've linked demonstrate, there is no identifiable political way out of that mess for any American political group.  Even the threat of Ebola so far shows no hope of unification in any productive way.

China, on the other hand, is comprised of the most hard-working, intelligent and economic people I've ever encountered. They are a mix of bravado and fear seldom understood by Westerners. Their past success sins created overpopulation, starvation and Chinese communism.  As a means of political control this Chinese Communist political structure remains in place today well past the point in time where most in China would want it. Culturally they are capitalists in fact the most self interested kind possible.

The turbulence created by these two Chinese forces causes many interesting things including systemic mass corruption creating huge wealth and the real estate boom happening in Arcadia today.  This of course provides a wonderful side by side contrast between the Chinese and American cultural modules, each going in opposite directions.

    Enjoy.

I don't think the Chinese even going back to Mao were ever seriously tied in with socialism ideologically.  It was a practical solution for what existed. I missed that at first while taking a class in college entitled The Economics of China.  I can tell you the academic self entitled China experts missed it too.

Once I traveled there on business however it was inescapable. The richest people were government officials who were slowly being overtaken by entrepreneurs they encouraged as they provided a source of bribe income.

The government behaves as though it is perched precariously on top of this and relies on the briber/bribee infrastructure as their foundation for power but are also wary of and balance that against the sheer mass of the proletariat.

The commoners know all this and also realize with enough pushback the government will reset the boundaries. As China continues it's economic growth these skirmishes should increase.
