I'm 57 and both Achilles have been barking for about two weeks. I always walk the course so it's starting to worry me. I'm a swimmer/hiker and don't lift weights. Anything I can do?

Have you tried Google/Youtube?
I've been having ongoing hip and back issues and have had no joy whatsoever seeing multiple different medical professionals but I am beginning to make some progress through my own research. Apart from that maybe check your footwear and make sure you have good supportive shoes. I pronate when walking and get achilles problems if I don't wear the correct style of supportive footwear for me. If you have some underlying biomechanical issue the right shoes can help support/correct it whereas the wrong shoes can make it worse.
Just my 2c. Good luck.

I'm 67 and do not have problems with those body parts. I ride a cart when I play golf and do not hike or run or play tennis or ride bicycles or any of that shit that I'll gladly leave for the young guys and those old guys who are on their fervant and hopeless pilgrimages to The Fountain of Youth. I do walk a lot in my work so I wear good shoes and take an adequate variety and quantity of food supplements to keep relatively supple. I don't drink any alcohol at all nor any carbonated beverages but swill a gallon of strong black coffee daily and smoke plenty of cigarettes. Whenever I feel a body ache anywhere, I pop a couple of ibuprofen of the generic Walgreens variety and I am good to go.
And I keep my weight down so long as it doesn't take anything like regular exercise or diet drugs. I am about six feet and weigh about 185. Five pounds less than when I finished military basic training in February of 1968.
The obvious advice is to give it a rest until you don't feel the pain.

As Kiwi suggests, this is where the internet is your friend. In addition to Achilles problems check out plantar fasciitis. In either case make sure you know the proper stretches.
This is where a good physical therapist can be a whole lot more valuable than a physician.

Connecting tissue, tendons (muscle to bone) OR ligaments (bone to bone), are a b!tch when they go bad on us older folks. We can never expect to be quite the same.

Mongrel has aversion to medical profession so he found out by T & E that Vitamin C and Omega 3 fish oil with mostly EPA instead of DHA are effective keeping the various connective parts freely moving.
