I bought the Keurig Platinum for Costco for $149. It comes with the Keurig, 60 K-cup samples and a little filter in case you want to use your own grounds. I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised. It tastes better than the drip method and the medium size is bold. The Platinum model lets you select from 5 different sizes with the largest being 12 ounces. I find that 12 ounces makes the coffee too weak so I simply use 2 K-cups at an 8 ounce setting and fill up my large 2-go ceramic cup. I never use 2-go cups that are plastic or metal as it ruins the taste.

The coffee still doesn't taste as good as when I go to Starbucks, Peet's or Coffee Bean & Tea leaf but it's close enough. At first glance the k-cups seem expensive but I think we'll be saving money over all that coffee we were wasting before.

Also, I just picked up a used set of Taylormade R7 irons, stock stiff steel shafts and Taylor grips at the Galaxy for $109. 4-PW, GW. I can't believe how good these irons feel for a stainless cavity back. In some ways I think they feel better than the R7 TP model.

I'm pretty impressed with my latest pos espresso slash cappuccino machine, a Breville I think it's a Aussie owned company with an Italian pump. I wanted a rancilio Sylvia, and had been watching a few on eBay, and this popped up and I impulsively bid 120 for it, and won it 400 hundred dollar machine, all new in the box it looked to me.
It works so good at making the nectar of the gods, I can focus on golf stuff now again. I do need a new burr grinder though, my Starbucks model has been a good one, but time has taken its toll on it as I have it disimbogulated, no covers safety switches bypassed, wires exposed. But it grinds to almost dust.

I screwed up and bought some Peruvian green coffee, that I have to roast nearly double the time of some of my favorites. 8 lbs of it to go through. I hid some Starbucks Sumatra dark from my caffeine addicted wife.

In about 2 1/2 - 3 minutes I can crank out a cappuccino from a cold machine. A little Hawaiian sugar in the raw I'm good to go.

I hate/love the Keurig. It's very convienent and quick. Wifey buys me the Folgers cups and she keeps the dcaf for her. The rest goes to friends. I hate the stuff they give you. We buy from Amazon or Coffecow.
We're on our 3rd Keurig. They keep breaking/leaking. So I put it back in the saved box and head back to Costco to get a new one.

    K Cups:

Nice score on theose TM's! What about your X20's you were raving about a few weeks ago?

You know a lot about this. I've been using just a Cuisinart combo grinder/drip design. I of course would never drink coffee from pre-ground beans in my home. What if anything should I be using other than the pedestrian Cuisinart. That said it's produced great coffee going on five years now.

Buy yourself a can of "Cafe Du Mond" and an aluminum filter, you never go back. I will carry them with me when I go to Aussie where I heard that a great cup of coffee is $8.00

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4kyojtHJb0 DO NOT buy Trung Nguyen coffee as shown in this Utube. Use Café Du Mond

If it isn't broke don't fix it. Cuisinart makes good stuff. I'm sure the guts are mainly stainless, I would think, and there notorious for getting the water temp correct.
I am mainly a expert at making cappuccino maybe an espresso in the evening. Roasting beans in small batches is not for everyone, it's messy, but the fresh roasted combined with fresh ground, combined with preheating everything, including the cup makes great java.

I have people that swing by and offer money for the coffee act. The show is half of it, I'm like a machine, and could probably run any machine with a trial run.

I am finding that the water is important too. We have been using well water that goes through a filtration system, but the water taste good, looks good, but has minerals that end up changing flavor, I went through a recent stage of using distilled water, Wow.

Yours has lasted 5 years? We went through 2 of those combos, and the grinder would break a year or two in.

Thanks for the feedback on the Keurig and that's precisely why I bought it at Costco and kept the box. I just know this thing is going to break down in less than two years. You can't have water pressure, heating and a sealed reservoir in a cheap product and expect it to last more than a year or two. There's just no way.

As far as fu fu drinks and espresso machines, you guys should get some nads and drink real coffee.

Our office has a Jura Capresso machine. It's a super automatic espresso/cafe crema(sp?) coffee. It worked flawlessly for 8 years of 3 person office use. I didn't look at the number of cups brewed but I'm guestimating. 10,000 cups of coffee. It cost $900 eight years ago and now costs about $1500. I called customer support and for $250 they are going to recondition it. So, if it lasts another 8 years, or even 5 years, I'd say I got our moneys worth.

BTW - It makes the best coffee. Each time you press the button, it grinds, tamps, brews, and cleans. The controls allow for 1 to 16 oz's. From 1 to 8 oz's you can get mild, medium, or strong brew.

Here's their web page. You can get it at Sur la table. http://www.capresso.com/automatic-coffee-centers.shtml

If I had to replace it I would also look at meile's. It's german made. You might not like it but it has one neat feature the jura doesn't. You can remove and clean the brew portion of the machine.http://www.mieleusa.com/usa/cva/product.asp?cat=5&subcat=37&model=625&series=143&nav=&snav=&tnav=&oT=287&menu_id=36&active=Our%20Products&subm=Home%20Appliances&thirdL=Coffee%20Systems&fourthL=Whole%20Bean%20Countertop&fifthL=Products&

I can relate completely. People always ask me if I'm a chef. I tell them, no, I'm an artist. When I cook for people, they become quiet and intent. Then they start asking questions. I ask them, do you want me to answer a bunch of questions or cook? I can't do both. Do they think Warren Buffett answers phones??

They actually want a cooking lesson while I'm cooking for them. Well, fruck 'em, do they want me to wipe their asses too?

I'm guessing cleaning is a matter of brew flushing it with vinegar solutions. Both of those look awesome. I'd love to do fancy s.hit after dinner but at that point after cooking I settle for a regular cup, often day old. I need to raise my game there. Having auto capability might be the ticket. How do the results compare to painstaking hand made?

It will be 5 years in the spring and it's worked flawlessly. Tremendous labor saving appliance and fun to use. Well maybe that and a dirty look and a door slamming.

Put it this way, I gave my dual system to my sister and I don't have coffee at the house. I'm so spoiled with the office coffee it's pretty much the office or espresso from a espresso store. We bought the machine because I got tired of pouring out half pots and drinking/reheating old coffee. It's been out for a week and I've had to skimp by on our old POS drip machine.

The machine comes with these descaling tablets that you put in every so often. With the Jura you actually test the water for hardness and set the machine. It counts the pours and prompts you to descale it.

Either store will give you free samples.

Don't drink coffee which is surprising considering growing up on a farm, 4 years army and the rest working construction. Can't stand it. Just laugh my ass off when people b!tch about money and the economy while they hold there 3,4 or 5 dollar cup of coffee.
