I found this interesting, although I am not into darts. Amazing skills.

Well, since I am here, this is worth the five minutes and show your kids... Well, maybe not.

This explains (to me) why arrows were such an effective weapon 2000 years ago and beyond... the dart video reminded me of this one...

Darts is cool. Shot a lot of bar darts in the '70's. Not as good as those guys though. I had a crossbow pistol. Much preferred it to longbows. Problem was the bolts were expensive. You know when they changed the name from "arrow" to "bolt" the damn price would go way up.

I play darts every Wednesday night with two friends of mine. Each one of us has a dart board in our garage. The host must supply a bowl of chips, drinks and nothing else. Two of us have the electronic dart boards but one guy has the real deal. I actually prefer the real dart board, although it's more of a hassle to keep score.

Darts and putting are very similar. Sometimes you have the mojo going and feel like you can't miss. Other times it's like you can't hit anything.

I've won the last 4 matches. We always play Cricket, best of 7 games. I'm the Cricket master, yo'.

Wow. I just got a great idea. The guy we bought our house from left a bunch of stuff in several sheds and in the one attached to the lower level of the house-- my club-making shop-- there's an old cork dart board and some darts that I never used. But I think I will use it for target practice with my CO2-powered .177 caliber pellet pistol that I bought for rodent and cat control. It shoots BB's too but I'm afraid of ricochets off the metal section dividers in the dart board. The lead hollowpoint pellets should just deform and fall to the floor.

I'm surprised you can kill anything with a C02 powered pellet gun. The ones that you crank are much more powerful. Even so, they aren't powerful enough to kill a skunk with one shot. I'm about to tell you about a horrible nightmare.

Our yard pests include raccoons, skunks, gophers and the ocassional coyote. The raccoons are really no big deal except that they like to get into our tomatoes in the summer. The skunks, for obvious reasons, are major pests. The burrow, dig up your yard and stink. So one day I borrow my neighbors cage trap, put some cat food in their and sure enough the next morning there's a skunk in there.

My neighbor gave me his pellet gun to shoot the skunk and I couldn't do it. So, I let him do it. He shot him in the head from about 6 feet away. Horrible stench. We were going to let him lie there for a little bit until the stink went away. I forgot and then it was nighttime so I decided to wait until morning. In the middle of the night we hear a noise. I go outside with a flashlight to look and the friggin' skunk is walking around in the cage....AFTER my neighbor shot him in the head earlier in the day!!

It was one of the most horrible things I have ever experienced...almost like a horror movie. He was either extremely resilient or the first zombie skunk to be captured.

The neighbor came back and shot him again the next day. I have never used the cage since.

I got the pistol just because it was a semi-auto and shot the same pellets as my Spanish spring-powered break-action rifle. The rifle is a single-shot but it shoots a .177 lead hollowpoint pellet around the super-sonic velocity and I sent about ten racoons to the Racoon Hereafter last year after I got tired of my dog barking at them behind the rear yard chainlink fence every night. Now a coon is not the smartest critter on the planet. These dirtballs would sit in the small junk trees that grew up behind the fence whenever the dog would wander back there at night. The stupid coons didn't realize that the fence prevented the dog from getting to them. But they climbed the trees like they were cornered by the dog. So whenever I would hear the dog barking out back, I would grab my Maglight, the rifle and a tin of pellets. Since that gun is so quiet, I would pop one of them coons in the forehead and it would fall to the ground dead without its mates even realizing it. It took about a week to get rid of them all but they haven't been back since. Same with the squirrels. Now those are pretty smart animals that have the gray matter to pass on to the other squirrels and their offspring that the Mongrel back yard is not their motherf*cking Green Zone.

This actually brings up a good idea. If any future GR matches are rained out we can substitute bowling and darts; two indoor sports that are fairly easy to get on video.

I've found that bowling is not like it used to be. Sometime between when I stopped my regular bowling, around 1965, and about twenty years ago, The World Organization of Bowling Boffins (WOBB) decided that having the appproach areas slick so that a bowler could slide during his release of the ball was not advantageous to the lesser-talented Masses. So they issued an Edict that required all bowling alleys to put sticky substances on the approach areas of all their lanes so that you could no longer slide as you were releasing the ball. Of course this totally eliminated my ability to throw a smooth hook with a 16 pound ball that more than half the time would land right between the nearer arrows numbers two and three with the ball motivating with counter-clockwise spin right into the right side pocket and knocking down 9 of the ten pins more than half the time. With that action, I would average a bit over 200. Now I'm lucky to hit 150.

Darts is OK but may I suggest nine-ball instead. Or 8 ball played with straight pool call-your-shots rules. Including bank shots. My credo has long been "If you can shoot good pool, you can putt well." If you can shoot good straight pool, your course management ability should be pretty good.
