Another typical start for the Giants. 4 turnovers in the 1st Q, unable to capitalize on a 90 yd intersept, can't put it in the end zone............

    Gonna be a long season.

    oh....and I hate the Jets.

My team will be playing the early game on ESPN this evening. Choke potential is very high for both teams. Yesterday's card was indeed a choke-fest. The hometown favs swallowed the big load in Denver this past Thursday nite but then all the rest of their division competitors performed the same fellatic feat yesterday. Gonna be an interesting season.

The first thing I do each season is determine who my teams are. In the past my methods of doing this have been criticized, as though I just jumped on the bandwagons of the best teams.

So this year I simply formed allegiances with the three teams closest to me geographically.  This means my teams are the Denver Broncos, the Seattle Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers.

    So far I'm doing well.

Yes, the Bengals choked horrificly. Three turnovers, horrible clock management at the end of each half. Mental penalties and wasting of timeouts. You'd think that a coaching staff that has been together for several years would have an advantage over a rookie staff, but you'd be dead wrong when it comes to Marvin Lewis. They blew an 11 point second half lead. Lewis cannot win close games, and never blows out weak teams. I think Chicago is probably a better than average team, but they are well below Cincinnati's talent level in most areas.
On the plus side, AJ Green was unstoppable. I think Dalton targeted him a few too many times, but he was still able to be the best player on the field.
Monday nighter against Pittsburgh, who I hear looked dreadful. We'll see. 0-2 is a tough spot, and either Cincy or Pittsburgh will be sitting there in 8 days.

As I've tried to console all the disconsolate Ravens fans in my midst with "Well they are still tied for first in the division.", the same applies to the Bengals. And Browns. And Steelers. Looks like the Div is up for grabs.

Eventually the Central teams will play each other so it's unlikely they'll all go winless the entire season.

I don't get how Marvin Lewis stays for an extended period when he's obviously a third rate coach.  Maybe it's part of the whole black people/kids glove thing that's automatic these days.

I'm pretty happy with my coaches, particularly Pete Carroll and Jim Harbaugh.

Your coaches happen to have really good teams although both coaches are sort of nerds. Especially Harbaugh when he throws hissy fits on the sidelines. Looks like such a woman. Although I really don't like the Ravens, I was glad to see his brother beat him in the last Super Bowl. Letting Anquan Bouldin go to the 49ers was one of the all time NFL bonehead moves. Russell Wilson is my current favorite quarterback.

Kaepernick has progressed as a QB but Bouldin made him look like Jesus yesterday.

I get your point on Harbaugh, but things change when he becomes your coach. Nerdiness becomes single-minded dedication. Hissy fits represent displays of determined, impassioned leadership. You can't argue with success.

The way things have evolved, for a coach to succeed in the NFL he has to have at least one screw loose.

Mongrel, I'm assuming you watched your Eagles play last night. I have concerns that Chip Kelly's offense isn't going to work all season. Not because people are going to figure it out. It was flat out dominant for the first half. I think the Eagles looked gassed in the second half. I also wonder how effective it will be after 8 or 9 weeks into the season with people getting injuries.

I didn't stay up for the second game, because no one cares about the Texans or Chargers.

Yes, that was quite a show on turf. At least for the first half. I think that the new coach's goal was to put enough points up that the team could coast to the end. Of course all that is predicated on the defensive side holding its own. Which they did. Barely. Its a work in progress but at least no one got hurt and the 40-7 blowout many of the experts predicted for the Redskins did not come to pass. Next.

I analyzed all of the wins and all of the losses from the first week. It turns out the exact same number of teams are 1-0 as are 0-1. What an amazing coincidence. I devised a spreadsheet for this if anyone would like to use it. Might as well save yourself some time as it took me a few hours to create it.

I had some extra time so I also created one that predicts day of the week based on what it is the day before. So far it's worked 100% of the time. From Leonardo Da Vinci to present day, Italians figure things out.

The over under on how many games until Vick gets taken out is 3. Since there's no advantage to under the table sponsor support or violating recruiting rules in the pros, Kelly's going to have a much harder time getting it done.

Yes. I assume that Kelly will have already been running the #2 and #3 QB's through the drills to take over when The Dog Killer goes on the IR. The goal is to have a "Plug In and Play" operation with as many interchangeable parts as possible. Like if my starting driver shaft snaps, I have a back-up that may not hit quite as far or as straight, but I can keep it in play and still score. And several putters so that if the greens are atypically fast or slow, the appropriate putter will start the game. Same with golf balls. If one gets lost or cut or scuffed too bad to keep in play, there's always another one in my pocket. I'd put the Vick Over/Under at 2.

I've got the worst 2-0 team in all of team sports. There's no scenario other than beginning with the Bills and the Jets that could have the Patriots at 2-0.

I myself have had to turn down a tryout at wideout, but if you're interested, leave a message on their website. You'll get a call.

I only consider cities that are part of this country. Denver, SF and Seattle are legitimate American cities. Oakland is not.

They NFCE is looking terrible thus far. Philly is destined for 6-10, the Skins can't win games unless RG3 is running around, the Giants have dug a hole and don't look special, and the Cowboys are the Bengals of the NFC.
Looks like the NFCW is the class of the league. Even the Cardinals appear to be trending up, although I would temper any fan's enthusiasm by reminding them that Carson Palmer is the QB. That guy is the ultimate choker.
I agree with trombone's assessment of the Patriots. They are very lucky to be 2-0.
Denver is the only team I see coming out of the AFC. I guess the Texans could do something, but I just can't imagine them winning any meaningful games against good competition.

Looking at the PF/PA for all teams, Denver and Seattle are so far in a class by themselves. Both of my teams are obviously Super Bowl shoo-ins.

The Eagles would be fortunate with a 6 and 10 record given the state of their defensive capabilities. However, that record could net them the Division. I would not underestimate the Patriots. And one good clean shot to Peyton Manning's neck is all it takes to relegate Denver to a decent first round position in next year's Draft.

Agree on Denver. Just proves that Peyton Manning is unquestionably the most valuable player in the league.
I'm not sold on the Pats. They've benefited from picking up 6 wins per year in that sad division, and having an excellent home field advantage come playoff time, but they have fallen short in every year where they haven't taped an opponent's practice. I also don't think they are drafting as well as they have in the past. They are still a force in the AFC, but they wouldn't crack top 5 in the NFC.

Since we trounced my former team the Niners this past weekend I do have a vacancy.  I think however the Bengals should have to impress tonight, or at the very least win one game in the first few weeks.  Won't get any easier with Green Bay coming in.

The Denver-Green Bay Superbowl that will be played under either the stars or a major blizzard in the Meadowlands this coming February will feature the lowest TV ratings of any Superbowl in the past 40 years and will be quickly nicknamed "The Fly-Over Bowl".
